Hello

I have 3 acans, they are all doing great thriving, all mycorals shows no signs of stress, water parameters are stable same as before, i test every other day.

but i realized one of my acans (green one)havent puffed, just stayed small, not super extracted but smaller then usual, i realize that there are new heads trying to take some realestate can that be the cause. I will post pictures

Maybe it’s flow? Ird like to know the answer to this one aswell I used to have the same problem

Could just be recovering from being fragged, I see another orange one healing up too, or, is something nipping at them?

Do you see anything around them that could be irritating them? Hydroids, aptasia or the like.

How long has is been like that that has you worried? Mine go through regular cycles of inflation and deflation.
Also, to me nothing really looks wrong with either of them in the photo.

orange one always been like that, i am very carefull about aptasia or worms any pests, i always check on them at night with flash light,

thank god i have not seen even one aptasia knock on wood, i am very carefull about diping, and where i get my corals from and i inspect, nothing bothers them.

However i saw him yesterday night trying to eat something i believe it was leg of an hermit crab, i dont know something large he was eating. maybe digesting problems?

i had them for 3 weeks, and hes been like that since this morning, it has been 9 hours and still same. Since these are mine first acans dont know what to expect.

i hope you are right

thank you

^this right here

Although not limited to acans, most corals will go through ups and downs for no apparent reason (to us) and just bounce right back. Zoas will close for days at a time, Duncans can sometimes spend a week closed up. Sometimes it's just natural wanes the corals go through.

I agree with both of these awesome reefers. All of my acans (micromussa) upon being fragged took some time near the cut edges to look full and fluffy.

Additionally, they look good. Mine too will go thru puffy inflation and mild deflation.

guys i went to check today with flash light and i saw a long worm just chillin next to my acans, it wasnt brissle warm,

this one was more on the clear looking body, more like tranparent dont know how to explain, i went online and try to find similar looking worm and this is what it looked like.

should i worry about this or what i should do. It was long most of my frags when i bought them were little no way diping, and inspecting i would of seen it. this one was at least 2inches long

more like the one the right side.

Do you dose trace elements? I can’t say that I have experienced that. Interesting.

Hi Johny
If you want to play with his mood, trying spot feeding. It’s fun and acans love rich meaty food.
By feeding you can train Acan to puff up in unexpected forms. It’s a good way To learn about Acan moods and behaviors

I do but I didn't mean it in terms of chemical imbalances, more of unseen factors like a hermit crab walking over a coral or an emerald crab tasting a polyp causing it to close up until it heals. Stuff we only see the byproduct of when we get home from work.

update, i placed him to a different location, taget feed it reefroids, this morning looks like hes coming back to normal status.

After reading it almost looked like hes stomack/mouth was inflated maybe he was trying to get rid of something, i dont know i have lot to learn about Acans.

Thank you all much, i believe hes recovering and healing

i realize that there are new heads trying to take some realestate can that be the cause.

THIS ^^^ Very typical for Acanthastreas not to inflate as new heads form around base, natural occurrence that allows new heads to receive more light and nutrition.
