I bought this little brown piece of poop looking thing from my LFS about 45 days ago for a couple bucks. It's really turned into something sweet! Under blue led's it's really fleshed out and is bright orange with blue streaks going from the orange centers to the outside. It seems to be "spawning" little tiny heads near the bottom. It was attached to a little hard piece of rock I think when I bought it and I just put it in the sand.

It doesn't look like it will have room to grow. So my question is, should this be on some kind of elevated rock or something to give it room to grow down and out?

Thanks

Can you take a pic of what you are referring to? Acans kinda grow in a clump. If you look at its skeleton when dead it would resemble a large favia. The heads are close together not like duncan with space between heads.

You're right by questioning me. I don't know what it is. I do know that it's not a Duncan though. I have one of those. It's also growing like crazy. This is the acan (?) that I'm talking about under plain white lights.

In the space where the two heads meet at the bottom. There is another head. In fact on each side of the head on the right in the picture there is a head forming down right next to where the sand is.

My acans love it in the sand. Their skeleton provides a hard surface to grow new heads across. Looks like you are doing just fine :)

It is a nice color and looks healthy. It is an acan lord. The heads will grow very close to each other. They will make room for each new head. They prefer low light. Will tolerate med light but will have best color in low. Acans can grow very fast if you have good water quality. They also love to eat. Will grab anything that floats by them. Whatever you are doing it likes if it is growing fast and the heads are nice and puffy.
