my acans seem receeded and a little loss of color but still look alive and have been like this for a while but have the small tentacles out is that bad? Is it growing back to its normal state? All levels seem fine except nitrates which are very high and are under a maxspect 420r

Where is the acan placed in regards to light/flow? Are you feeding it anything meaty like brine or mysis? Can you post your numbers for alk, cal, and mag?

but i do think nitrates are the culprit or my light is too close

Your light is probably too close and micromussa lordhowensis like to eat. I had my best growth and health with feeding them mysis 4 or 5 times a week.

I agree. You might try moving it off to the side so it's not directly under the light and feeding meaty foods more often. Mine love to be fed multiple times a week.

Thank you do nitrates affect it other than color loss?

What readings are you getting for nitrates? When I first got my acan my tank was still having issues with trates, about 40-50 if I remember correctly, and it never caused an issue for them that I could tell.

Im using an api test but currently its at 160ppm very high and thats because i forgot to remove my media so nitrates started leaking back into my tank

Try getting nitrates to 20 or lower by doing water change, if it doesnt work try dipping the acan in an iodine based reef dip like seachem reef dip.
