I don’t know what happened but I did a water change and changed my purigen and nano chemi-blue and my scans have been closed up? Parameters look good in my evo 5
Sal 1.023
Ph 8.0-8.2
Cal 420
Nitrate 0
Nitrite 0
Temp 77.6
Is this normal, I do regenerate my purigen and all my other corals seem fine
I have been reading to add trace elements? I am still a newbie in the hobby here .i have been dosing target feeding the corals with reef roids and lrs nano reef frenzy. Anything I am missing here? Thanks for all the support from ya’s

Well the specific gravity looks low... typical numbers are 1.025-1.026.

Did you rinse the purigen and carbon before you added it to the tank? The fine particles can sometimes irritate corals and cause them to close up until it all settles in the tank somewhere.

Well I did rinse the purigen and chemi with saltwater and I am now mixing my own salt now with instant ocean the only reason my Sal is down is due to the 5 gallon tank so I don’t go over .025 due to evaporated water temp stayed the same due to I use another heater for my new water it’s been about 3-4 days now they been like this should I raise the salinity?

Also I change water every Saturday

These guys will like a bit dirtier tank. What other corals do you have? I could never keep acans until I did a tank that was for lps only. Not sure why, but there you go. Mine are doing great so far in my evo5. I feed the one fish, do some broadcast feeding of Reef Roids few times a week. Change water about weekly. Keep it at 1.025 (just top off daily) and low flow. I also run t5s.

If it is right after a change, do not worry. If they stay in like that all the time, try feeding, lower flow, watch for anything picking on it (ie. shrimp).

Frogspawn could send out sweepers at night if it is near them. Careful of that. The toadstool should be kept far from the acans as they will bother them (ime). Most else should be okay unless it is beginning to invade space. gsp, xenia, some palys will win in a battle with acans.

So Should I maybe clean the powerhead and pump weekly ? Should I do every other week of water changes if my nitrate and nitrite stay low? Here is what I have been told to do:
Change 1-2 gallons a week.
Rinse sponge, purigen, chemi-pure, and bio sack in salt water from tank.
put all filter items back and refill with new saltwater( at same temp ).

Am I going overboard with these steps? Am I taking away nutrients from the tank by doing this also?
What would be my correct steps to be keeping the tank sable then? I surely dont want the tank to crash or kill any of my corals.
Soon I will be getting a IM 30L gallon tank, hopefully will be easier to take care of.?
Thanks for all the help.

I had a similar outcome where all of my acans closed up and started to look very poor. I took out my purigen and gfo. My acans looked great afterward but I had an algae explosion. Everything has evened out now but that was a battle. My water was too clean.
