I got 2 acan frags on sat night. One is doing great, the other is all closed up. Did do water change last night. So im sure that may have something to do with it. I dont have a water quality question. I just jave acan health question. Its severly closed up, but with tentacles exposed, while the other is wide open. So does this look like tissue loss, or just deflated. With the tentacles sticking out i would assume deflated?
Not the best picture because it was early am and lights were ramping up. The bottom was sat. evening

The health of your corals and water quality are directly connected.. In order for people to give you any practical advice about your acans you should include your complete water parameters and information about your system such as age, lighting (type, intensity, schedule), filtration and any other inhabitants.. full tank pictures are also very useful

55 gall-1 year 2 months
Light- fluval sea 3.0 59 watt 25k
(Ran 1 for 2 months just added another sat and is currently acclimating)
Sal. 1.24 was at 1.25
Alk-9( dosed from 8)
Cal 420(dosed with alk) was at 460 a few days ago, but did water changes.
Nitrates-10. Was at 20 and reason for water changes..
Mag.1420
Thank you

Do you know your PO4? How are you testing Alk? In general your parameters don't look to bad, your Alk is a little high for my liking. Sometimes new frags can take a while to settle in.. make sure it's not getting to much flow and PAR should be somewhere around 80 to 120.

Thank you for responding. Could be flow. I have an 1150 aimed up high and to the right, and a 400 aimed to the left to fill in deadspots... testing is with api kit. I plan on upgrading testing. The additional light improvement was more important. Po4 seems to be 0 but again with api.
Acan with trouble is on bottom right.

Do want to add that i have battled with GHA that maybe turf algea for sometime... so maybe my phosphates are up. I will get hanna kit

Quality test are well worth the investment. Hanna is great for PO4 and ALK, I use salifert for everything else..

Some advice on your lighting and your probably not going to want to hear this but those lights are probably not going to work or will hold you back from optimal success , my brother in law has the same set up as you, started with one and then added another. His 35 gallon tank will not grow anything with them, I personally don't think the spectrum is right and they are not putting out near enough PAR. Typical targets for a mixed reef would be about 5-7 watts per gallon so with your 55 that would be 275 watts minimum, your light are putting out 59 watts each, thats less than 120 watts total for both and your running glass lids which will reduce available PAR even more. I'm guessing your not even getting 50 PAR on the sand bed.

Fair enough lol. Until the great 500-600 $ expense, i could move the acan up if need be. From your experience, does it look like tissue loss or maybe just severely deflated? As i stated the tentacles are exposed, i assume that is possibly a positive sign. It has only been in tank for 2.5 days, so didnt think tissue loss would be possible to that extent in 2 days.

Hi it’s not tissue loss move it higher up until u find the right place it likes . Then it will open again and puff up more thx

I don't see tissue loss from what I can tell by pictures.

My acans on the sand bed at 150 PAR with spectrum mostly around 450nm (lots of blue) these where all grown out from single head frags.

I would suggest just getting a t5 hybrid fixture and using your LED's with that.. should be able to catch these on sale at some point. Fantastic light and what Im using :)

Acans don't need a ton of light to thrive...I put mine under rock ledges where they dont get direct light and they grow really well. Mine also do not like tons of flow. Low light, low flow coral IME.

When keeping Acans, I have 100% noticed that they thrive when you regularly feed them. I have about 24 different Acans, never fed, they lost their colors and weren't as fleshy as originally. Now I feed them 2x a week with reef roids, gonipowder, reef frenzy, and Grow Fry Start, and the colors are absolutely amazing and way more fleshy/fluffy. They look like different Acans. Just some advice to long term keeping acans :)

Does not look too good. Im going to move it close to other... because the other is on sand bed also...happy and open

I just don't get why it happens so rapidly?
The beautiful green onew were wide open and seemed happy just last night before light off. This morning they lool the other.. just almost as if they started to melt over night. How is that possible? My nitrates jumped back up to 20. Thats all i can think of. The top pic. Is this morning and the bottom was just last night. Restested...
Alk-10
Nitrate-20
Calc.-440
Salinity 1.25

I agree although I’m currently having the same issues with my acans on the sand. All other corals in system are puffy and huge. Renting a par meter this week
