I’ve had this acan for about two months now with no problems and when I checked my tank this evening I noticed several odd ‘bumps’ on it. They look like little white spots but each ‘spot’ is made up of several little pieces. I’m not quite sure how to describe it. (Will add a picture below it may be too poor quality to help though) Could it be stings from my Favia? They were a little bit closer together (about 4-5 inches apart on a frag rack and I have moved the acan completely since I noticed the marks) in the image if you look at the bottom right polyp you can see a couple of the spots I’ve been talking about.

Is it growing new polyps on the edges? You are correct about the picture but perhaps you are describing new growth? Keep it away from those sweepers either way!

It does have some new growth to it but those bumps are all over it! Not just on the edges. They seem to be part of the coral. I tried to (gently) blow/brush them off in case they were some sort of bug but when the spots were touched the acan began to suck them in to itself. I’ve never seen this before on any of my other acans so it’s very interesting, and a bit concerning, to me.

Other than those odd specs on it the coral seems to be doing well. It’s fully open and eats just fine, it’s little feeder tentacles are even visible in the evening times. It looks as if it’s business as usual for it despite the odd looks.

This guy was super upset when he first came home. That’s it in the second photo. A few hours after being placed in the tank. But you can really see the feelers. First photo is from just now. The lights are ramping down so the feelers have gone back in. I notice it likes it when the powerhead kicks in. And closes when it goes off. I have to take really good clear photos to see what’s going on because my eyes don’t work that well I’m not sure as this is my first acan but it definitely has its moods

Mesamental filaments maybe ?
( not sure spelling of mesamental is correct lol )
Are they white sort of curly things ?
If so then with you saying sucked back in itself sounds like it is .
They can use these when stressed/ feeding/ ward off an attacker / hermit climbed on it plus many other.
Google Mesamental filaments and see if same

Mesenterial filaments correct spelling lol

Looks to be receding to me, and the white bits your seeing is the skeleton showing through the flesh.

All just a guess as a better picture would help.
