What is going on with this acan frag? Frequently it extends these short and thin fluffy tentacle type hairs. Is this a normal behavior or something to be concerned with? You can see them in this photo on the bottom/left side of the coral verses the "normal" side on the right.

Perfectly fine. Just feeder tentacles, shoot some mysis towards it.

Doesn't look like feeder tentacles to me. Maybe I need to turn up my brightness but that looks like it's receding, showing skeleton.
On a closer inspection, you are right, looks like skeleton. I based it off the comment of "thin puffy tentacles", but it does look like it is receding which is not typical behavior.

Is it getting blasted with light? They do better in low light, even partial shade. A double check of parameters can’t hurt either.

I agree with what’s been said looks like the coral is receding. Either from too much light or too much flow or both. The feeding tentacles will come out from where the green ring is. Hard to see from the photo if the green is the tentacles or not. I wonder is the flow hitting the side that’s receding? Either way try moving the coral to a better location if possible.

One of the best things we can do for our corals is know the par of our tanks. Call around to the lfs in you area I’m sure you will find one that rents a par meter. Takes all the guess work out of placement.
