i have 2 acan from aussie before , had a great respond with my T5 , since i switch it to Hydra 2 month ago they both dying , but other coral respond it good and growing up , any suggestion is welcome ! thank y'all ..........

I enjoy the color I get from my t5/LED combo. It gives a powerful area for SPS, yet does not orange out my acans. The LED is dimmable which is a must in my opinion.

nice modification fixture you got there. mind to share some info what you are using and how to modify the fixture

I think the poll results are mainly from the fact of what most people are phasing their lighting too. Anyway I run LED's from Fathom LED and love them so far have seen some growth in the short period I've had them in some corals as well as coralline algae has been showing up and thriving which I am thrilled about. I plan on making my tank (180gal) Acan dominated. So I will probably end up dimming the lights down in percentage and going with more Blue than white.

For those claiming acans love LEDS, has anyone done a before and after study of colorations? if all you have ever used was acans you might think they are the best ever, when really they are dull and lifeless.

That would really depend. I had a plain orange with white strip Acan under Leds, starting to grow green mouth. But after I moved to my frag tank with T5, it just turn plains orange. Led will make your Acan morph, but I think it's because most isn't full spectrum like T5?

This. This is accurate. LEDs emit only the wavelength they are designed for while other fluorescent bulbs emit over a range but peak in only one range. To each his own when it comes to morphs. With correct placement and feeding acans can still outshine in either tank respectively.

Hi Alan, basically my light combo is an Orphek pr156 placed inside a cheap t5 setup from eBay. My acans are all the way in the corner under mostly t5 light. I hung my fixture about 24" over the waterline. My t5 bulb choice was mostly actinic and UV+purple because my Orphek LED fixture was so white/yellow.

Here is a quick write up I did on the light:

Using mh 2x 150 over 55g. For the last couple of weeks ive only been run mh 2 1/2 with great resaults. 2 frqgs of rainbow are starting to get there color back. Finally seeing greens and yellow.
Will try to get pic but only have a carmera phone.

I currently have 3 acans. My first acan was a beautiful blood red color that after I switched from t5 to leds turned a ugly orange color (i live in Alabama and orange is just not a color we like down here ;-) second acan was a bright lime green color that has stayed the same. It is high up on the reef, been there since the beginning. And last was a dark purple under leds when I bought it (was under leds in a friends tank) but has since started turning a reddish purple. So last weekend I moved back to sandbed from mid tank. Hopefully will turn back dark purple

I dont like leds. There not there yet... well i like leds but not as a main ligjt sourse. Mh and t5 r tried and true. Companys are using us as there test puigs with there lights. We have alit ofvmoney in our reefs. And im not about to lose itall because som ething. Isnt tried and true.... just my 2 cents.. look on the sell forums.. alot ifvleds for sell.. i wonder why

so far so good on the rainbow acans formerly grown under t5, now in my led tank. they've been under strictly leds since october. i will add that i did quite a bit of research and planning to build a custom led blend/intensity that seems to be working out fantastically.

heres my acans that were under leds for over a year.

that was with camera phone but the colors are close, they were all very orange.

changed to ati 6x39 t5 on dec 26th so here they are 6 days after change with a better camera but colors are close as well.

couldn't be happier I made the change to t5! I was using two AI sol super blues

sure they all just changed to a red color but this much closer to their original colors and the smaller one on the bottom right is actually more burnt orange in real life, the color it was when I purchased it at a frag swap last year.

I'm using 2 AI Vegas at 32% whites and 80 to 85 % on the blues with my acans at the bottom of the tank! I've had them for over a year and I've had no color distortion of any kind with excellent polyp expansion!

I'm not sure if it was just the ai sols but I think my pics speak for themselves. They turned all my acans orange which several others have said has happened to them as well.

I believe this to me more of an intensity/spectrum issue than a blanket "LED" problem.
