Never seen my Acans have their mouths open like this. Something is clearly ticking it off but don’t know what. Any ideas what’s going on or if it’ll recover?

Likely hungry. Feed them some Mysis shrimp

dang. I didn’t realize it was that much work. I usually just feed extra reef frenzy and let it float around in the water until corals get it ha

To me that looks nothing like an acan feeding response. The polyps and tentacles are all retracted with the wide open mouths.

In my experience this is sometimes normal and i believe often related to expulsion of waste rather than desire for food. Also see it at times when doing water changes, dipping, overly bright light, etc....basically any stressor.

I would not be concerned if it is temporary. If it lasts more than a day or so i would be concerned. In any case though again i dont think this is a sign of hunger

Send them to me then! Lol They do look stressed. Smaller colony behind looks the same. Polyps are retracted and not full looking.
Do you have nitrate/phosphate availability? Low/moderate flow?

Agreed! Stressed, not hungry.

This is what a hungry and healthy Acan looks like.

Yeah I have measurable nutrient levels, honestly higher than they should be. I’ve had an issue with fluctuating nutrients but I’m trying to work on it. These are charts from the previous year.
