I added an acan and maze brain last Sunday and am starting to experience some issues. Corals were dipped in a Bayer solution for five minutes upon arrival.
The acan was doing great all week- fed and extending tentacles everynight. This morning I checked on the tank before work during lights out and all was good. I come home and it looks like the acan is missing a polyp and it’s no where to be found. Researched polyp bailout- could this be it? Located on the sand bed in low-med light, low flow.
The maze brain seems to have tissue recession and what I am hoping is just some algae and not brown jelly disease. Located on the sand bed low light, low flow.
Tank Specs:
-45 gallon, set up since Nov. Purchased as used setup, tore down tank and transferred.
-JBJ Pacifica light
Temp 79
pH 8.3 (Roch pH pen)
Nitrate 10 (Salifert)
Salinity 1.026 (MA877)
Ca 475 (RedSea)
Alk 8.4 (RedSea)
Mg 1600 (RedSea)
PO4 .208 (Hanna Checker)
Light stocking with just five damsels at the moment. CUC consists of some hermits, trochus, turbo, astraea, and margarita snails, as well as an emerald crab, nassarius, and tiger conch.
My zoas, candy cane, mushroom, and gsp all seem to be doing alright. Usually the zoas get temperamental and I know something’s up before anything else reacts. Perform 5-10 gallon water changes per week and started a refugium with chaeto to control No3 and PO4.
So any thoughts? I realize my PO4 and No3 are higher than ideal, as well as calcium and mg for some reason. I do not doze. I haven’t seen anything averse from the other corals however.
