Acan progress pictures

I bought this acan back in March and I've been keeping acans since 2008. I found when I buy frags it tags them along time to grow out down the skeleton. So I started to put expoy around the acan to see how they it would grow. Here is what it looks like after 7 month.

Good idea! I know several people do this with chalices, but never heard of people doing it with acans. Be sure to keep us posted on whether or not you think it's had a significant impact on its growth. On a side note, that acan had a major color change over the time that you've had it! oh:

Yeah it's color change but the LEDs make it hard to get a good picture. I find the growth is good with out the expoy but with the epoxy I find the acan has an easier time grow over the the expoy. I also think the they natural grow in to a dome shape so by adding the expoy they don't have to spend energy grow down then out.

This is a nice idea for a thread!

Thank you Rev. I'm going to cut two heads on one of my acans and have one with expoy and one with out and see which one does better.

Here's a new one that I just made.

This is my favorite acan frag. It has huge polyps and the color really pops.

3 inch frag disk

1 inch frag disk

I cut the frag disk

I guled the small disk to the large disk.

Purple epoxy

Great thread, thanks for the explanations. I have 3 Acan frags cut from larger colonies and I noticed the only one that looks really healthy had very little skeleton and is sitting just on top of the sandbed. Going to try and put epoxy around one of mine to see how it does.

Thanks you. The acan will hate the expoy at 1st but it should be fine after a day or so.
