Hi all, I've got 2 lovely acans in my system. One is super happy, always puffy and shows no signs of tissue receding. The other had a slight bit of tissue recession in my lfs due to the coral table crashing but seemed super puffy in my system for a few weeks. Now I've noticed a bit of recession around a few of the heads. The feeder tentacles are always out normally but I've taken a picture below straight after a feed so it was closed and you can see the recession.

Any ideas on how to reverse this?
This is the only coral in the tank to show any issues and I've got a number of sps in here too! Parameters are all within @Randy Holmes-Farley recommended limits, never any major swings day to day.

I wonder if it’s flow or if something’s irritating it. Has anything changed in the tank lately?

Nothing at all, it's been going really slowly over a number of weeks. I'm going to move it to super low flow and see if it helps

Having similar issues so following this..
Also have u tried brightwells restore? Supposed to work.. haven’t got my hands on it yet as it’s not available in my country..

Truthfully it could be any number of things, some of which may be out of your control. Coral can be strange sometimes. Something to consider, if there are other coral in the tank with potent feeder tenticles and one of those tenticles happens to break off it floats around the tank. This little piece then hits your acan and bam, tissue loss. I have this happen on occasion with my torches.

Moving it my help but it may also irritate it more. If it was there for a time and doing well moving it may not be the correct action but if its been there and hasnt done well at all, moving it may be okay. I often feed my acans a slurry of reef roids daily for a time if they lose some tissue due to a sting or any other reason. This often helps them heal and grow new tissue.

Thanks for the replies, I'm hoping the spot it's in now will help it recover. I'll not move it again, if I lose it then it'll be a sad day but that's reefing

I had an acan frag fall off a frag rack and was covered in sand for an hour. After, it looked just like your green acan. After placing it back on the rack and leaving it alone for a few weeks, it became very fluffy again (just like your other acan).

The acan doesn't look happy now but I don't think you'll lose it. Mine are in low flow as well and hopefully stable parameters will bring that frag back! Maybe try feeding it as it does have it's feeder tentacles out? Best of luck!
