I believe that you could frag a Acan will a scroll saw.Although I think using a wet saw is much better and would produce nicer more viable frags.I would clean the saw blade thoroughly with alcohol or iodine before using. Be certain to have plenty of aquarium water available for soaking and rinsing the frags.Acans produce a lot of slime a lot so have your plugs ready with glue or a sheltered area in the aquarium.
The sacrophyton (toadstool) will frag effortlessly with a razor.Be certain to do this outside of your tank in a bucket as these corals will let out toxins when cut.I also would recommend adding carbon to the aquarium for at least a few days post procedure.
I don't have a sump, I use a canister filter and run carbon all the time anyway. I might use my dremel to frag my acan. Might cut it from the bottom up.
Using the dremel may be the way to go for the Acan,it looks to be about 1/2" thick? The razor should be just fine for your softy. It will be similar to cutting a firm cantaloupe fruit. It should bounce back no matter how you cut it.I like to make a donut ring around the top. This will leave you with a nicely trimmed up mother colony.
I'm not sure what you mean by a donut ring, wouldn't I need the base with it? It shaped like a mushroom, the base is about a 1" across. I've only seen them cut like pie wedges!
Pie wedges work too.You do not need the base, but you can make more frags from it if you want to.So if your are looking at the top of your "pie" you could cut (trace)all along the edge. You are then left with a ring of the "crust".
