I have had this coral for a wile now and im still not sure what it is? someone said once it might be a acan maxima? but I dont think so.
it isnt growing like any acan I have ever had, or favia for that matter. the polyps are large and it produces new heads by splitting the larger heads like a branching lobo
when I got it

do you know what kind? the heads on this get to about 1 1/2"then split never seen any favia with polyps this big

the red just started to show on all the edges and spots here and there
did I mention this is the brightest green I have ever seen!
even my emerald mummy eye chalice looks dark next to this

the color in the pics is true.(no photo shop) it is even brighter in person!
(and I basically dont run actinic lighting on my tank! )

yeah looks nothing like the one you posted a link 2.
polyps are very large. the coral in the pic is about 4" round if that gives an idea to the polyp size.
and again it splits its polyps. I have never seen it grow a new one?
the second pic gives you the idea of how it makes new polyps.

anyone know what kind of favia has 2" polyps

The one you linked is an Austrailomussa and the one you posted in your original post is most definitely a Favia.

I was searching threw all different favia pics, this site has this particular astralamussa listed with the favia?

this is the only pic I have found that looks even close if I take a top down pic it looks identical.
if thats not it I guess I will keep looking.
(unless I have a 1 of a kind but doubt it)

is there a favia you guys are comparing it to?

like I said I have never seen a favia with 1 1/2" - 2" polyps and it dosnt grow new polyps the polyps get to be around 2" then split. not saying it isnt favia just nothing to compare it 2

I have a dragon soul favia that has large heads on the new parts of it. It grows large heads on the outer part of the colony and then that large head divides itself into 3-4 heads

I was looking at that favia it looks very close but the only thing that says its not it to me is the polyp size "polyps up to 20mm" thats only about 3/4" the polyps on mine are about 2" 45-50mm thats over twice the size?

it defiantly looks favia but polyp size dosnt match up with anything? dont get me wrong I like the looks of the prices on the favia but I dont think i am going to be fraging or selling this piece so ID would be awesome
Wild Aussie Reverse Prism Favia - Frags

on another site they think it is some sort of weird Oulophyllia

so now ive been told acan, favia and oulphyllia

ok I went to 4 lfs yesterday and looked at a bunch of different favia prisms....... and no not even close!!

defiantly not Favia Rosari!
nope,nope.....I looked at one almost identical to the one pictured on your link

the polyps on mine dont crater for one and polyps are double the size of every favia I looked at.
the walls look like they are separated but not really when it puffs up all the polyps puff up like one without separation and polyps are almost flat just a slight dip toward the mouth of the polyp

if you guys didnt see it the pic I posted is fully retracted and when expanded it dosnt puff up much

took a pic with it sitting on a piece of 3/4" eggcrate so you could see size of polyps maybe a little better view to
