Good afternoon everyone, hope everyone is well. I recently installed an aquatic life 48”t5 hybrid with (3) xr30 gen 4 on my reef tank. I have a mixed tank with sps on top and acans and lps lower down. Recently I have noticed my acans not opening up as they usually do, I wonder if the new lights are making the acans , tracyphillia stay closed? Any insight would help. I turned off the t5’s for a day or two to monitor the situation and also am going to raise them to about 12” from water line

Have you noticed any changes since turning off the T5s? What are your water parameters right now? Maybe something is off in your parameters and it has nothing to do with the new lights. Are you noticing any issues with any other corals? Where in the tank are your acans located? Can you post a full tank shot and some close ups of the acans?

Also can we get the #reefsquad in here to help out with more experienced knowledge?

All the sps are doing great, and whatever lps is somewhat shaded is doing good also, that’s why I came up the lights. I checked all parameters manually and everything seems to be in line. I will wait till tomm since I’m going to b home , I can physically see what’s going on

Would I be safe to assume that before they closed up , they all took on predominant orange / reds , despite whatever the color was you bought em at ? Also placement , tank size, depth ect , by my estimates any 4' tank is gonna have like 400-600 par average in your tank with those lights not turned up, the t5 hybrid alone will give you what they need ( 100-150) par anything above that your gonna melt em. close them and they will literally scoop themselves out of the bone eventually . Most 15's cant even keep acans colored right , they are too powerful with the hotspot , not enough diffused light . Thats why there are so many neon orange / red acans lol I will post a pic of radion grown acans and the same acans after a few weeks in my system , its night and day . BTW I am running a 48x24x16 mixed sps, lps, zoa, micromussa , favia ,mushroom heavy with lots of chalices , the SPS is probably in about 350 par max , I think your running like 4 times as much light as me I am using 180w total of light at max . If I max out my fixtures , I actually loose color from my acros , and zoas get ticked , the colors start red/orange on my acans. Unless you have some kinda 40" deep tank I think your cooking the tank. Whats your photoperiod , intensity ect. To go with that tank info.

I had the same radions about 6” higher and 3 foot t5 lights ( not aquatic life) and everything was doing fine . I guess I’m going to raise the lights higher and lower the intensity even more and then hopefully everything goes back to normal. Also going to see if I can rent a par meter to see exactly how much par is being generated throughout the tank

those badbois (radions )should be like 24" off your water if your running AB +

also the PAR value is kinda useless on blue light UV LED fixtures , its your PUR in the 300-450nm which you wont be able to read with anything I know of, alot of people dont get that PAR is what we see , PUR is what they use, we can measure PAR not PUR easily. My lights are 98% PUR output
