I have placed this acan frag in a shaded area of my tank, and was wandering if it looks okay? The picture looks a lot darker than it is.

Sweepers appear to be out now

Acans will change colour if they go from 1 light to another. if they want more light they will stretch and get super puffy.

they also dont really have sweepers, but rather feeding tentacles. if you see them then give them some food!

So they won't sulk and stay in their skeleton in the shade? I've moved from the sandbed where the colours really popped and moved to less light as I want them to encrust that rock, but I worry now that it isn't enough light after gluing them down?! Could I mistake super puffy for being healthy?

As long as I feed mine every other day they are for the most part always puffy. About once a day they do deflate and then puff back up(water change). The day after I feed them they poop and are ready to eat again. I try to keep mine in about 50 PAR or less. More light and they turn orange and green on me everytime(that could just be my lights though).

I have a purple and green one that's in the picture that I've placed in very low light, and a red one in direct light but just above the sand bed. How fast is the growth rate if these? How much am I expected to have in a couple of months? Does the picture above seem OK lighting wise?

Acans in my experience have held their colors far better when in lower or indirect light, especially rainbows. but that's not always true. Also note that a lot of the times they are collected in shadowy parts of the ocean

Acan's perfer low light, direct or indirect. Low light, heavy feeding of fatty meaty foods and good flow and you won't have a problem.

I kept mine in about 100-150 par, feed 2-3 times a week each polyp and my growth and color was amazing.
