Acans losing Greens and Rainbows under Maxspect Razor

I'm going to be moving my acans to a new tank in the next week. Going from a T5/LED hybrid to XR15 Pros. Will be interesting to see how they change.

nice! share youre results ;)

my po4 is now at 0.08 ... will see if this and the lamps will turn them acans

Did you ever download the app mentioned earlier? (They're free.)

And I don't see if you posted your NO3 test results? What is that test now and is that different from what it's usually like?

Same questions about the PO4 number....is .08 ppm different from what it's usually like?

yeah i have an NO3 pending from 3 -5

My Po4 is 0.08 now. took it down with rowaphos the last days. Has been 0.16 for some weeks ...

i tryd one app but that gave me ridiculous results

I think crunchbox (or something like that) makes a good one for android....can't remember the name of the app tho and don't have android.

"galactica luxmeter" is one that I've had luck with on iphone.

Let me know if you can get a reading! :)

Based on your water test numbers, it doesn't seem like nutrient starvation is the issue. :) (Really would like to have an idea of the light levels now.)

How much effort do you expend in keeping those NO3 and PO4 numbers in check?

Any idea what NO3 and PO4 would balance out to if you stopped GFO, water changes, etc and only kept skimming for export?

Is there much or any algae growth in the tank? (any kind)

What's flow like in the tank? Can you tell me the tank's dimensions and what pumps you're using? A full tank pic showing the pumps would help too, if possible.

ok thx mate i will try this app tomorrow and post the results.

the tank is a 35x18x18" and is standing as a mini room divider.

you will get full tankshots tomorrow too. for flow i use only a maxspect gyre pump and an external filter where i insert my RowaPhos if needed. The UV lamp is integrated in the external filter ( thats why i run him )

Skimming is a Tunze 9004 24h/day

For the NO3 i do absolutely nothing. its always the same like the tank temp at 77F.

The PO4 is an problem. i think i have depots in my stones that where wrong stored before i got them. So i have to change the rowaphos in my external every two weeks. if not po4 will raise to 0.36 ...

Im testing my parameters with red sea rest and use a reference to be sure that the results are reliable.

i really dont know what would happen if i stop water changes. I got absolute no algea right now. Only between the sand an the glass is got some little brown stuff but dont looks like algea ...

.i tried two different apps on Android now. Both gave me the same results.

20lx at the corners of the tank ( where the big acan is )

here are full tank shots:

As you can see, there is only a Maxspext Gyre vertical on the left side and the glass outlet of my external filter.

Excuse the poor smartphone quality, got a good camera here but dunno how to set it up to shoot good pics.

Beautiful tank, so don't go doing anything drastic no matter what you decide. :)

I would stop looking at PO4 as the problem. Seems to match your NO3 to me.

I don't go around recommending this very often, but I would stop GFO and start carbon dosing if I were you and I was worried about this.

Raising the amount of light going into the tank and/or adding more corals would also be legitimate options.

One way or another, cause those excess nutrients to be used up – they're balanced, so use a balanced method! :)

Much better than GFO!!!!

thanks for all youre advise!

i saw some videos and maxspect has nothing to mess with the readions. even on youtube you see how nice the light is and the corals pop.

i gonna get my two xr15w this week and replace the razor. i will run the lps preset and start with 25% intensity and run the acclimatisation mode 6 weeks to about 55%.

Friday i gonna get some new corals, like orange euphyllia, montipora forest fire and some new acans. I dont know if these ones suck some nutrients out.

at the moment i need to GFO to stop po4 raising. i really think the rocks are full of it. But for long term i will follow your advise :

Add corals
Add Lightning Intensity
Stop GFO

I dose fauna marin bio balls and red sea no3po4x but no reaction on my PO4

Not an expert but Acans like dirtier water. Lost few when run Gfo...I would feed more probably.

Hey guys,

Everything is fine on Acans, they keep their color and even gain in direct light! :)

In the other Post i just asked for Intensity with Diffusers, because my SPS wont thrive very well

i would definately turn down the warm whites and reds if using radions on Rainbow Acans

I wondered since it seemed from reading like corals were having problems that were potentially light related in both threads.

Have you spent a lot of time looking at other potential issues aside from lighting in either case?

Corals seem really adaptable to all of the lights we tend to use in the hobby, but not so adaptable to all the other routines and standards some of us keep....so I tend to get a "spidey sense" when folks spend a lot of time pointing at their lights as being the cause of whatever problem they may have.

Unless lighting is unstable for some reason, lights are unlikely to be a big part of most problems.

In keeping with that, if you're making the lights unstable for any reason, then it's going to be hard to know whether there are other contributing factors or not since unstable lights are directly stressful on corals in almost all cases.

Even if your lights are 100% stable, folks get surprised by flow and nutrient issues when they think things are "perfect" all the time. It's worth considering everything that could be a likely contributing factor.

All that said, hopefully all is well in both cases and all your coral are thriving now!! :) :) :)
