why does it seem like the acans just melt away sometimes is this normal? anybody have the same problem?

Look at the acan thread right below you/ other then that how long have you had them?

mine were stressed from low pH from changing salt then they got brown jelly disease (a protozoan) I lost two of the nicest colonies I have ever seen. I recommend ta king them out fragging generously and dipping then put them bac k, Dosing Vitamin C can help prevent both bacerial and protozoan infections. Im not saying what I had is what you have but the solution remains the same regardless. Also if you dip them and see those worms in that thread then thats probably the culprit. Still you want to dip maybe daily to stop infection. And loo k into vitamin C and see what you thin k

sorry about the text my k is bro ken so I have to copy and paste it and it screws up the text

any iodine dip really, if it is protozoan... nothing. but the dip will perturb it a little. I have been reading a lot about this Reef Dip from Seachem its iodine but it is in a slime coat so it sticks to the wound helping prevent subsequent infections. I would take all the corals that are messed up out of the tank dip them you may want to use a small paintbrush and make sure to rid the coral of all dying tissue. then put it back. If tomorrow or later tonight you see the death persisting do it again but frag it generously and toss the part with the infection. Trust me I wish I did this sooner I lost the nicest stuff I have ever seen :(

Vit C from brightwell, that is more preventative. But the iodine is what you dip it in. Follow the directions on bottle you should be ok.

yea but you said water water was in check. With LPS they are very sensitive to alk swings... but then you can get an infection because there weak. Just like humans, not everyone gets sick but when your stressed your more susceptible to succumbing. Vit C is an antioxidant which perturbs oxidative stress LPS are sentive to oxidation due to the high cincentration of algae making it within there skeleton. Iodine helps deter this as well thats what the dips do. Iodine + O2 = Iodate. O2 is poison to lots of creatures in too high amounts. Once this stress takes its toll then infection could set in. I am not saying by any means this is whats going on for a fact, that would be impossible to say over a forum. but these things happen more often than one may think and like i said treatment is the same... dip and amputate
