First time acans owner. I just got these acans on Tuesday and they don’t look happy at all. They’re closed up pretty good. Any advise?

My tank parameters are :

Dhk 8.4
Cal 410-430
Nitrate 3-5
Phosphate .08

I think I may know your problem but lets get a little more info.. whats your salinity? What else is in the tank? How old is tank? Lighting? What are you testing with?

Salinity is 35, 3 ai Hydra 26 HD. Tank is an established used tank I bought from another reefer 3 months ago that came with corals, fish, and rocks. Those white rock you see I put them in a week ago for acans. Previous owner had this tank for 2 years.

Probably a combination of too much flow and light. Acans can be really picky around algae too. Not that I see any around them. Have you had other acans in the tank before?
I could never keep acans until my 20gL qt and my 6g travel. They love those two tanks, but hate my 210g and 40g. Go figure as the 40/20 are the same sump and same light configuration.

Okay, good starting point for me. Nice leathers love those! However, could be a problem for acans.

Start with this, acans like lower light and low flow. Find that spot in the tank. Next, they do not like leathers FME. They like higher nutrients, you can feed them, just coral foods in the tank, not directly. Also, because of the leathers, you will need to run carbon if you don't currently. May help with that warfare.

Good luck. you have very pretty animals.

I forgot to mentioned that I did put acans on smaller rocks so that it’s lower in the tank but same corner and this morning acans are doing much better. When can I start feeding new acans? Can I feed them reef foods?

so everything looks ok, I would bet money those green hairy mushrooms are committing chemical warfare on them.. I had similar issue about a year and a half ago (you can read about it in my build thread) I had various LPS placed near a colony of those same mushrooms and stuff started going down hill fast! removed the mushrooms and almost immediately everything started looking better.. The rest of my tank was ok so you may be able to just move them away from that area and see what happens..

Here are some screen grabs from my thread about it..

I am trying to get rid of those green mushroom but my LFS is not accepting any trade now. I also have large finger leather behind the rock too.
