Acans are notoriously slow feeders. So they need to be protected as they are eating. These clear plastic “feeding cones” made out of empty plastic cashew jars does the trick. Note the half-inch plastic tube that extends above the water surface which allows me to drop/guide the mysis shrimp right into the individual heads without sticking my hands into the water.

Where did you get the tubing from? These containers don’t float up?

The tubing are your standard half inch Lee’s thin wall rigid tubing that comes in various sizes from 3/16”to 1 3/16”. They are available at Pet Mountain. I drill extra holes in the tops to release any air so they don’t float up. Here’s a link and a photo.

The price has tripled over the last year. These are, of course, petroleum products. Thanks Joe

My clowns gather around outside the containers staring at the mysis that is resting on top of the Acan heads. They anxiously, but patiently await for the moment I lift off the containers and they can have at any mysis pieces that missed their target. They are very careful not to disturb the coral as I have never seen the coral retract during this process. Who says fish aren’t smart?

.

I’ve been feeding Coral Frenzy pellets through small clear tubing, BRS, with a funnel attached to the top. It’s a tap and wiggle method to get the pellets to slide down the tubing. Acans and blastos slower than scoly to consume pellets. Lights out when I feed since a court jester goby thinks he’s always hungry. Still sometimes I have to chase him off with the tubing.
