My acantho came home for it to be full on sand. Cleaned it. But would it die it probably ate some sand it was covered

That’s what I would expect. I would also expect more of something like irritation from sand. Allow me to bring in some experts

@Mr. Acantho @Mechano @Mr_Knightley
Gonna have to agree. It’s probably just annoyed. But I am no expert.
My Melanarus wrasse and watchman goby love spitting sand on the acanthos and they don’t get bothered really. But they aren’t buried with sand either.

Acanthos are normally good at handling sand, seeing as they are natural sanded dwellers in-situ. Scolies and Cynarina have a much harder time with it since they are cliff dwellers usually. I wouldn't worry about it unless the Acantho continues to look stressed or begins showing damage; photos would help a lot.

The acantho may expel the sand, but I've never seen that before or how that would work

If you're worried, you can:

1. Get a plastic pipette
2. Squeeze the tip before it goes I'm the water
3. Softly & slowly put the pipette tip in the acantho's mouth
4. Release the squeeze from the tip: this would suck all of the crap I'm the acantho including the sand

I would leave the acantho alone and see if it can expel on its own
