Acanthophyllia got a gap on it

One of my acantho is being retracting for a day, but it does that time to time so I didn't pay much attention on it.

This morning I just observed that there is a gap on the fresh meat, I never seen anything like this and another acantho is doing fine. Anyone has experience with this? Is this normal?

It looks like something bit it there the night before. What fish do you have in the tank with it? It otherwise looks very happy, but that could change on a dime if it gets an infection. Take it out and do an iodine soak for about 20 minutes with a reef-safe dip (most LFSs sell this, Seachem makes a good one), and make absolutely sure to make it retract all the way before you take it out of the water. The weight of their own flesh pulling down can actually rupture them in parts.

I got 1 yellow tang, 1 gem tang, 1 six line wrasse, 1 cleaner wrasse, 1 long nose butterfly, 3 clownfish. they've been in tank for more than 6 month, never seen any fish nip the acantho.

The only thing I would suspect is the Longnose, however if it were him it would be little nips instead of a big chunk like that. It could just be an isolated infection that hasn't spread quite yet.

That is what I am thinking. I will grab a dip from LFS this afternoon let's see if it stops the flesh losing

Just finished the dipping, the acantho open the mouth during the process, back to display 10 mins already, still opening the mouth. Let's see how it goes tomorrow.

It'll take a while for it to open back up, but this should help out in the long run. Make sure not to feed it for a few days since it's just been treated, but definitely feed it again after a few days.

Just give a quick update. It is day 4 after dipping, the acantho still not fully open as before, however it looks healthier then last Friday. Tentacles are extending during night time while all LPS hunting.

However, after dipping, I can clearly see a hole in the middle of the acantho, it doesn't look like a opening mouth for me but more like a hole I can directly see the sand bed through it, any idea if it is normal or it is just opening mouth.

Hi guys, after 3 month, quick update here, the acantho recovered well, meat grows back and mouth seems like healthy. Eating good and expanding to the same size when I bought it. Thank you for the helps!
