Acanthophyllia help

Hi guys,

What is this red thing on the side of my Acanthophyllia? Is it actually part of the coral or is it a sponge?

It’s been expanded all morning but has just retracted so I’m guessing either something has nipped at it or it’s just being weird...

I can see it faintly, but I can't tell what it is - it does appear to be ON it though, not part of it. At least to my poor itchy eyes.

Could be a Vermetid Snail...I had one growing on an Elegance coral once didn't turn out well. But it was sneaky because it took a while for it to demonstrate any irritation.

probably a sponge. my acantho has one attached to the skeleton
