this montipora has been a struggle it all was my first jump into sps it was bright red when I purchased it after adding it to my tank about a year ago it quickly lost its color and got very pale and I started finding flat worms on it after eliminating the flat worms I presumed it was a goner after all the dips lfs told me the color loss was most likely due to biocubestock lights not flatworms and that montis are pretty hardy and come back to life so I stuck it out at kept it high up in higher flow on a frag rack and it’s been growing really well since November growing back new bright red well today scraping coraline I bumped my monti and broke off a small chunk of its new growth I’ve never fragged anything yet so I attached it to a old frag plug with corafix and was looking for any advice or if there was anything more I should do for this

Monti caps are hard to kill. It should grow fine if you leave it.

I've had my monticap bleach and tissue recess to the point it was effectively dead, numerous times. Currently it's almost completely grown back, they are very resilient.

Sometimes I just leave the re pieces in the sand if to get are hard to reach and they will still grow back.

In a month you can take that frag in to a lfs and trade it for something new.

Or give to a friend starting a reef tank... :-)
In a few months you’ll have to start cutting creating so many monti frags that you don’t know what to do with them! We all love those large plates, but they do a lot of shade.

I’ve been undecided for a little now weather to frag the new growth completely off the old

I have heard that some reefers like to put super glue on the edge of frags to seal them until they heal. Others like to do iodine dips to protect from bacterial infections. I accidentally fragged my fat head dendro once. I just glued the frag onto a plug without any preventative measures and it was fine. :)

I'd be one of those reefers. Super glue on it's edge and hold it on the frag till dry. It will grow over the damaged area.

Interesting what are the signs of bacterial infections with coral
