I was doing some maintenance and was cleaning equipment during water change. I then heard my auto top off beeping at me and at first was wondering what was going on. Then realized it was on while draining the tank. It dropped my SG to 1.020 from 1.026. My question is do I continue to top off with saltwater till back to 1.026? I have a Mocha clown, Blue Damsel, some Zoas, Pallys, and Xenia. The Zoas and Pallys are already open after refilling tank. I added a little extra salt to my water change water and my SG is 1.022. I figure it will only take 2-3 days to raise it back up through top off with the evaporation I have going on. Any tips will be appreciated. Thank you.

Just so you know, auto top off water replaces the freshwater that evaporates. It does not replace the salt in the tank. You could raise your water level with saltwater, let it evaporate over a day or two and top it off again with salt water until your at your desired Sg.
Disclaimer: Dont use your ATO to top off saltwater ha I just wanted to add that.

Don't panic... and don't feel lonely :) Many of us have made that particular mistake at one point or another.

I like the overfill solution. If you drained 10g of saltwater, put 10g of saltwater back in the system, and let it evaporate down to the correct salinity and waterlevel. This method will let raise the salinity slowly, over several days. If you were doing a water change, you've probably got the right amount already mixed up :)

Yes I know that auto topoff replaces the freshwater that is evaporated. I will continue to top off with salt water till salinity is stable. Thank you everyone., that is why I love this forum.

I think I will stick to my manual top off unit (which is my hands or my wife's) for a while. Always pre-made super saturated salt water (a litre or two) for SG correctional works. Adding a cup or two and test after 30 minutes. Add more if needed until you reached the target salinity. For such huge differences, slowly bring up the SG in a day or to might be a good idea.
