hi everone, im going to receive my first acro this week. should i acclimate my acro for a day or two to my lighting schedule? or would it be okay to put it on top of my aquascape right away? i know it is best to acclimate all corals to your lighting, but wasn't sure because of acros high lighting demands. let me know your thoughts. thanks everyone!

Welcome. The acro pros will chime in. Tell us a bit about your tank and light to help.

It really depends on where your coral is coming from. If it comes from an aquarium with similar lighting, then there is really no need to photo acclimate.

I have directly glued corals from 400 PAR aquarium to 900 PAR rock work without much problem. Imo the dip is gonna be more harsh to the coral than anything else.

Coral in question. There is slight bleaching due to increase in light, then again, could be the dip too. Nothing they can't recover from.

i have a 37 gallon aquarium. i have one ai prime 16 hd over the middle of it. i aquarium is about a year old and honestly only have a few lps and softies with a monti aswell. just going slow to add corals, mainly trying to be patient. i want big colonys of a few corals. just let them grow. i honestly do not know the par of my aquarium. im getting my frag from fraghouse corals. they had a spring sale the other day. i will put a picture of my lighting schedule and power output of peak time.

the placement for the acro would be 15 inches right under the light
I don't think it's going to be a big issue. I'm the kind of person who glue the acro directly to their final position. Imo, light acclimatization means moving them around; I really try to avoid that. But that's just me.

Welcome! Glad you joined. Pacific East Aquaculture let me tour and video their facility, and there is GREAT info about lighting acclimation they when coming from wild, but unknown if your coral coming from wild (aquaculture always better, if possible and it means more likely success as well).

Have you considered starting your build thread? I found its a great place to document my tank's evolution for myself. I started tank first then joined, so I'm still finding myself going back collecting pictures & updating historically as well as current state. Once you create your first post in your thread and link it to your account, they will give you build badge (look left, under my ID)

This might help you find people local to you:

This is a good reference book type online article I still review:

LOVE @FraghouseCorals - they happen to be outside DFW! Likely your coral is aquacultured by them, so its going to be more hardy and you're more likely to be successful.

thank you for the information! i will watch and research some more. i have took alot of pictures of the tank for my own satisfaction. the pictures i take are not the greatest because the light distorts the quality. i know i can get a filter for it just haven't yet. this is my first purchase from FHC so i hope it goes well!! thanks again!!

holding sunglasses over phone camera, or even cutting up medicine bottle can work in time until you get filters. Medicine pill bottles have a little curve so you might get tiny distortion on edges of photo, but at least its something in meantime.
