So ammonia is way less toxic at a lower pH and that's a good thing for fish that have been in a bag for a long time. A lot of people say the best thing is to match salinity and temp and transfer the fish as soon as the bag is opened, or the pH will climb and the much more toxic ammonia will damage the fish.

Why not inject Prime directly into the bag and then drip acclimate? There's a lot more going on than just temp and salinity...

Drip acclimating generally takes a few hours and I can't see any downsides to adding some prime but for drip acclimating you need to have a oxygen source aswell and if you don't have this fish can get stressed but if you temperature match then release they have less stress imo unless it's a really sensitive fish

I tried it today. I got a box of good stuff from Reeftopia, the second time ordering from them-3 jawfish, 3 urchins, 2 shrimp, a couple stars and 300 astrea. It arrived in great shape. Since all the bags had salinity of 35 ppt, I emptied everything into a bucket, added Prime and floated it in the tank and then spent the next couple hours adding tank water to the bucket.
I did not use an air stone and saw no signs of distress-maybe because the bucket has a large surface area? So far everything looks good in the tank.

The biggest problem I have with temp match and release is so many fish are shipped in low salinity water. I keep my tank at 35ppt.
