I know acclimation can be important to reduce stress on the fish but how many out there skip the acclimation process? We know most fish stores don’t drip acclimate their fishes when they have such huge shipments of fish coming in. I think I’ve only seen them temperature acclimate their fish unless if it was a more expensive fish.

I only acclimate if the salinity difference is a lot. Then I just still add 1/4 cup at a time...not a long drip. If salinity is within a few points I just float and release.

If using a QT....a person can just match the QT to the bag.

I think it depends a bit on if the fish was shipped and was in a bag for an extended period. I usually add the fish and water to another open container and drip acclimate for 30 min or so. But I would watch the fish, ammonia can accumulate in the bag and if that's the case getting them in cleaner water would be my first goal. Any fish I get go into QT first.

If the fish has been in a bag for a long period of time then it's the best idea to match temp and salinity and release immediately after opening the bag. Ammonium accumulates in the bag, which isn't toxic, and quickly turns to ammonia (toxic) once the water is exposed to air

My lfs drip acclimates and uses fritz methylene blue

I match my quarantine tank salinity to the fish bag salinity...then only temp acclimate. I tend to try to get shipped fish out of the bags as quickly as possible.

One trick I found is I bought a 1/4 inch ball valve. I use the hard plastic tubing like they have on the rodi unit. This is makes it easy to control the drips. I use large paper clips to hold to the bucket.
