My 125 gallon tank is lit by 2 t5s NOT high output and a strip led light of 75 watts. I just bought 3 120 watt non dimmable LEDs. My plan is to have them sit on my egg crate cover. They will be 1/2 inch above the water.1) Will the lights be to strong that low?2) How should I acclimate my lights to my system? Should I put a few pieces of computer paper betwen the lights and the tank. Every few days pull a piece. if so how many pieces and how often?

Wow, that is going to be hard without a PAR meter. 1/2... they are going to be very very strong. Sorry can't help with exact directions, any chance your local area has a meter you can borrow? Any optics? I have 3 120w fixtures over my 4ft 120 with a combination of 120 and 90 optics that I put on based on my rockwork with a PAR meter. They are around 9" off the water.

1/2" seems awfully close, I'd try to go up a bit more...and maybe layer some window screen material to defuse the light.
What type of units are these..
I never have lights that close to water, one good splash from a fish and it would be the beginning of the end.
Raise them puppies up higher
How would you even be able to do tank maintenance with something so close.

1/2" is way too close, not only for the corals but for your LEDs to the water, to much risk IMO, find a way to hang or suspend them 10-12" above the water
