Hi, I have just ordered a conch along with some other snails and crabs online. This is my first time ordering online as the acclimation process worries me a bit and there's a lot of conflicting information out there regarding it. When bought from the LFS I usually just float to temp. acclimate and then acclimate in the bag by adding tank water every 15 minutes for an hr and have never had issues. I was just wondering if my tank water is currently 1.024 SG and the shop I'm getting the inverts from keep their tanks at 1.025 SG will I need to drip acclimate, or should I acclimate how I would usually, or do I even need to acclimate at all for a 0.001 difference for inverts?

Any advice is appreciate, thanks!

Generally it's fine with shrimp id drip though

I would follow the vendors acclimation directions to maintain their guarantee, if applicable. Absent vendor acclimation directions with inverts I would temp acclimate and drop them in. When shipped, ammonia builds up and pH drops which lowers the harmful effects of the ammonia. When you add tank water, the pH rises again, as does ammonia toxicity. Some people add Prime to their shipped livestock during drip acclimation to counter this. Crabs and snails can handle salinity swings better than ammonia spikes. In this case, the salinity difference is minimal anyway.

Yeah that's why I really avoid buying anything online because of the conversion of ammonium to ammonia that happens once the bags opened and pH rises, it's just been something I haven't wanted to deal with, but am getting a bit fed up with not really having much choice/ diversity in local shops... so I'll have to! Hopefully it will go smoothly and not put me off. Would hate to do it wrong and end up killing any of them especially after putting them through the stress of shipping!

From what I've read (in relation to fish anyway) going from a higher SG to a lower SG is less of a danger than vice versa also. Just wasn't sure if that guideline and the 0.001 difference guideline also applies to inverts.

I'll see if they send me anything tomorrow by email before they ship regarding their recommendations but it doesn't say anything on their website, maybe because they only ship inverts and not fish... IDK.

Thanks for your replies!
