So 6 hours ago I received my juvenile Blue tang(Atlantic) in the mail. Got him out and he didn’t look good, very stressed, so I skipped acclimation and put him right in the tank in some good water. Water in the bag was nasty. Anyways, he’s been hiding for the whole six hours in the same spot breathing fast, he’s a white and brown stripped color meaning he’s stressed or frightened I guess, anyways I’m wondering if this is normal? Should I feed the fish? Lights been off for six hours so far... any help greatly appreciated.

If the water in the qt tank was not too different in temp or salinity or pH, it should be fine to not acclimate. Otherwise, he will be under more stress. I get wanting to get him out of the icky water right away, but you still want to match the water as best you can to avoid shock. Well, that said, I would try to make sure the tank is blacked out a bit. Should help him not be so fearful.

The rest is letting him get comfortable and following some of the guidelines written by Humblefish regarding treating the fish. Hope he makes it through.

He seems to be okay now turned the light on for a minute fed some live brine and he ate, got his color back too. Just a little afraid of anything moving outside the tank lol. Here's a pic. Also I knew that my salini

ty was the same the site I ordered from keeps it at 1.024 so its exact.

He looks really good, from what you said I was worried. Keep an eye out for the notorious issues with tangs of ich and velvet. Nice baby you have there. I always thought these guys were pretty. I just do not keep many tangs. Only the small ones like the kole or yellow.

I’ve been doing a lot of research and most full grown blue Atlantic’s don’t get larger than 6.13 inches lol great little guy to have though wish he stayed his juvenile colors

Shhh the tang police will hear, but he’s in a 30g till he outgrows it. Then it’s on to the 150 with a powder brown yellow and a blue hippo, also got him from a site that only charges 19.99 for juvenile blue tangs, obvi shipping was 29.99 but if I ordered more it would of been free.

Only 6", I thought those guys got up in the 12" range. Cool. I would have loved to get a lavender tang after seeing them in Hawaii, but seeing them there also showed me why not to get them. They get really large.

Good luck with the guy. I do like the Juv colors too. I had one in a large tank for the zoo I helped with, but a issue with the tank killed the poor guy.

That sucks, and yeah they say the size cuts in half in most cases being in captivity. We have a yellow tang about 5” and he’s 8 years old, is healthy and happy been in a 75 for 3 years then moved to a 150 for the last 5 and he eats twice a day. Also a question, I have 2 Black ocellaris, 1 antenna goby and a pistol shrimp, 1, 2 head duncan, and 1, 1 head duncan and the blue tang ( 2 harlequins and 1 cc star but that’s self explanatory) what should I be feeding and how much? So far without the tang I was feeding half a cube of frozen brine and half a cube of a seaweed algae frozen cube, today I gave them a little treat of live brine shrimp but I’m just wondering what the main meal should be? Should I be adding garlic from Kent Marine or other vitamins or anything?

I do not add garlic or any vitamins. Just make sure you are giving a good variety of foods and good quality. I feed pellet, flake, frozen, live, homemade. They get it all. Also nori sheets too. They loooove those. you can use a clip or just rubberband to a rock and toss it in.
