Acclimation question

So added my first group of inverts and fish (purple goby) today after doing a drip acclimation. Quick question besides the obvious, how do you tell if your acclimation went well? I see my hermits are already eating algae, so I guess they're happy. My goby keeps hanging out by the pump I guess to get more oxygen. Any thoughts?

Welcome to R2R! It may take a while for the fish to adjust to its new home. Erratic swimming, gasping for air, rapid breathing are symptoms to watch out for as the fish adjusts. Are you treating the fish with any meds to prevent disease from entering your tank system?

Thanks for the response, I'm not treating the fish, as my local fish store isolates there fish and treats them before selling them. As I just put inverts on the tank, I didn't want to medicate them as I heard the copper is harmful. Any recommendations are welcome. Thanks

Did they explain "exactly" what they mean by "isolate and treats"? There are many, many, many people way more experienced than me with saltwater fish care that would tell you - don't trust; treat them yourself. It's the only way you will know for sure if the treatment done to the fullest extent to insure healthy fish, especially as you add more fish to the tank. The risks of infection are rampant. This forum and others are constantly posted by frantic folks with sick fish that appeared healthy. Here's some reading for you to ponder.

They told me they separate there fish and dose them with copper before they sell them. Didn't get too in depth about it. Wish me luck, I'm gonna take my risks this time with my small one and when I upgrade down the road, I'll keep my small tank as a quarantine tank.

Everything seems to be fine with him from the limited experience I have. He comes out during the day and plays in the current, then retreats at night to a space in the live rock and sleeps. Seems to slowly be adjusting to the food as he'll only eat about 3-4 pellets.
