This is my first nem, he's a bubble tip. Anyway, it's not been going smooth and I'm getting neurotic about it. Day one, he just sucked himself in and floated the tank with the current within 2 hours of him being placed anywhere.
The first evening in the middle of the night I saw him below a powerhead on the sand and starting to open up. I have a tiny hydor, so I'm not sure I need to worry, but I made a cover out of filter floss right away.
On day two, towards the evening I placed him in a spot on the top of my rock scape he liked enough to stick to and shimmy himself into a crevice. That night, after the lights went out he opened up beautifully! As soon as the lights came on this morning he balled up and sunk deep into the rock work, he's been in there a good 14 hours and looks to be upside down now.
I'm wondering if I should find a way to encourage him to leave there via power head and suggest a place lower lighting and flow near the bottom of the tank, or if I should leave him be and let him hole up for a bit longer. Maybe turn off my powerhead and let the return be the only flow till he finds a spot?
My running plan is to stay hands off for 4 days, if he doesn't move by then I will position a power head on him and try to get him to leave, place him in lower flow. I'm wondering if I should keep my power head on or not though for the sake of the rest of the tank.
As to his condition, his guy does seem a bit washed out as for tentacle colors but there is some rose hue to him. To be honest I haven't seen his foot. I wasn't carefully watching the lfs salesman remove him. He really hasn't attached anywhere in the tank except the one place I felt resistance.
