I recently “partnered up” with the “best” LFS in Houston, Tx... the 4th largest city in the US...

Is it because of Covid? ... they just do not have the things I want!

Should I give up on LFSs and just buy online? ....it’s the only way I can see that can get me the “species” I want...

It could be Covid, it could also be a lot of other things. Some species are seasonal, while others are available year round. Others are just hard to procure, and this is made harder by COVID affecting supply chains.

Or alternatively, the LFS in question is just overcapacity. If it's the "best" LFS, then chances are that there're a lot of people (relatively) who are going to it. Which means you're not going to get 100% of their attention 100% of the time.

Finally, the LFS could just be a jerk. There've been some places that give me an "off" feeling when I enter, and I get the vibe that they're losing sight of the customers. Other places I've been to for a few years and only just make the connection that they're not good when I realize that their fish prices are exorbitant and they're not actually going to special order me in some fish species I asked for.

Fish stock is definitely down during these covid times. It's been my experience that you can tell the LFS what to want and they will tell you if they can order that for you or not. If you include the shipping costs associated with ordering online then it's usually cheaper through LFS. Plus you get to look at the fish and make sure it's eating before you buy. Only con ia that you just have to wait much much longer to get your fish.

Sounds like you have plenty of LFS options to try and get fish through.

Well depends... Are we talking aquaculured coral? Like let's say you want a specific acro strain like a homewrecker as that might be easier to procure online. As far as fish well that's up to the lfss distributor. If they're good they should be able to work with you on acquiring anything you want within reason.

Btw I have a Petco and Phoenix is two hours away... So you're lucky compared to a lot of us, lol!

Hi! Houstonian here, which lfs are you calling ‘the best’ and what are you looking for? Depending on what you want, I may be able to direct you towards a store that better fits your needs :)
