Achilles / hawaii

I was lucky to get a juvenile Achilles from livequaria in Oct. 2019 ($230 or so).. It was risky cause they don't gurantee 14 days on them. Qurantined him doing TTM and now he's a grown a good size around 6" and his teardrop has developed nicely from a small line as a juvenile. Also became bully of the tank too.

Guess im sitting on gold - Paid $285 !!

I have one too from when he was just a baby! He wont go anywhere anytime soon! Also just picked up a Chevron as well. Hopefully they open the ban up soon so others have a chance to get them. They are great fish as long as you get a good one!

There are some European wholesalers that has stock left so if you’re in Europe and want one I would hurry up.

I pulled the trigger on one two months ago. Figured that it was a matter of time before this would happen and I guess I lucked out!

Tahiti also has Achilles? I saw a bunch from Tahiti for sale on liveaquaria few days ago

I saw hybrids on sale at live Aquarius divers den but no true Achilles. I know they are found near the same zones as whitecheeks so may see some for sale caught there.

I’ve had mine for two years...I would sell it for $5000 is someone wants it :)

Had two here in my tank...am in Hawaii though..paid $80. A few guys here will go dive and get one for your if you ask nicely.

On the other side of the pond where I live in Japan, they can be had for about $600US and there are 4 in stock at one LFS in Tokyo.

I would try to get one now because right now most LFS have no idea of the ban till they try to order one and cant.
Most the hobby wont even know there is a ban.

This fish is in a few other places but who knows how many are collected there or even if they are collected in the other places.
The wholesalers are advertising that this is the last chance for Hawaiian fish. Got to act quick. They are adding a price premium too, if you see a price bump that isn't from the retailer.

I have access to under water world (wholesalers) they do not have any Achilles or yellows in stock. I did see what they called show Achilles last week for $250 , not from Hawaii. The yellows they did have left last week had jumped to $70 overnight after the ban. Since the whole covid thing fish prices have gone up and the availability list has gone down.

I had an Achilles about 25 years ago. I paid $59 for him. The prices today are crazy and going to get even more so.

I would love to get one but what would be price with shipping??

Are you a Japanese hobbyist? What’s the hobby like in Japan?
Yes, but I am only 2 years into the hobby. In Japan, the hobby seems to be going strong. Domestically sourced fish and corals can be bought fairly cheap, and I think the imports are priced consistently with the US market.

A couple of days ago, I quickly snapped up a Hawaiian flame wrasse for 22,000 yen (maybe 230 US) . Also I just bought a Radiant wrasse for 7800 yen.
