I’ve wanted a Achilles for a while and just are setting up a 125 with a decent sump would it be enough for a Achilles since people say that they are heavily similar to powder blue tangs.

I believe the length of the tank is more important than the gallonage. For example one can have a frag tank that is long but the gallons are lower because the height is lower. A longer tank allows for more swimming room. In reality though, the tangs in the class of Achilles really don’t belong in an aquarium. Their bodies are streamlined for a reason, to swim long distances in the ocean. But I understand the desire to have one.

i have been researching heavily over the past few months as I prepare to get my own and this is what i've come to learn as a common denominator for success for the AT from other reefers (Disclaimer: i havent kept one myself!)

- The longer the tank, the better, they will use every inch of it, lapping around the tank constantly
- High energy usage on the Tang's part will require high amount of feeding as well, extra water volume, higher than stated turn over volume on skimmer etc will help deal with the increased feeding/bioload
- Really high, turbulent flow as they live in surf zones

TL;DR, i think 5-6ft in length for a tank should be good for a small-medium AT for a good few years. I'd only be concerned about gallons in terms of absolute water volume to deal with how much feeding the AT will need.

Let us know how it goes!

Not long term. I had my guy in a 150x70x50cm tank designed around its needs for swimming.
After about a year the tank started feeling cramped and one of the primary reasons why I upgraded to a 200x80x65cm tank…and that guy uses every inch of it.

Crashing flow will help if you want to attempt to keep one in a tank that’s realistically a bit to small.
