Achilles tang

Just thought I'd ask the question. How many people are keeping Achilles tangs and how long have you had them?

I have one for the past 4 years it's a tank of a fish. Just wondering what experience other people are having. I find it to be a very easy fish to keep if you use proper QT.

Got one for ~ 8 months now No QT but it was isolated at the LFS for several weeks, before I got it.
I have noticed uv dose help.

Achilles is difficult mainly because it is so sensitive/susceptible to skin parasites. It will quickly reveal the presence of ich .... even in tanks the reefer thought to be ich free. Can be a bit tricky to get eating, but if you have a larger tank with a lot of flow that really is ich free, then the Achilles isn’t that difficult.

I hade one a long time ago for about three years before I broke down my tank before a move.
Got this guy about three weeks ago (sorry for the crap floating around)

He has settled in very well and eats like a pig. Had a couple of spots of ich but that went away like it always does.
The regal and purple tang got all bold when it went in but the Achilles fairly quickly asserted himself as the boss.
Easy fish provided that you get a decent specimen and meet a couple of basic requirements.

Oh yeah and hot dang they have increased in price. I believe that I paid about 140$ (converted from Swedish krona) 10 years ago and now it was over 400

I got mines from liveaquaria at juvenile stage last year when he had no teardrop yet, just a lame little line. It's been over a year now and he has grown quite a bit and the teardrop has developed nicely. He instantly became the tank Boss. He bullies everyone except the 2 bigger Blonde Naso and Fowleri. He constantly chases the powder blue and lavendars around mainly during nori feeding time. Love my Achilles. Wouldn't want to add another fish to bully him like a crazy Sohal. I did TTM for all of my fish so my tank is ich-free. No spots have ever been seen or introduced.

Hey I noticed the idol in your tank and some angels. Do they not eat your corals? How long have you had them? Also how did the tangs get along long term?

They're one of the pickier tangs initially as far as food is concerned in my experience.
Nori/gracilaria are always a sure fire thing though for any achilles worth buying. Don't worry too much about the other foods cause they'll pick up on it eventually as long as they eat the other stuff.

They're seemingly a lot more delicate physically even compared to their more similar cousins like goldrims and powder variants since I remember how very noticable the net markings were when I moved one of mine to a larger tank despite using a soft woven net vs the powder blue getting nothing despite thrashing way more.

Lastly once established and eating well, they're easy to keep as long as disease isn't present. If they are, then all bets are off since their seemingly more delicate composition on top of very visible bouts of being upset at something a tank mate did (blue eyes). This is one fish I would never consider owning without having a rigorous quarantine protocol already being practiced (has nothing to do with the price of the fish)

No, angels do fine with most corals as corals aren’t really a part of their natural diet for the most part…provided sufficient feeding. If you’re interested in the subject I go over it on a couple of videos here https://youtube.com/@viking_reefing
