Got a new delivery of dry rocks , looking to clean it properly ..
what cleaning suggestions do you fellow reefers recommend .

bleach . acid . etc ..
Thank you

I would just drop it in a bin with saltwater and heater and pump and just start the cycle. Really no need for bleach or acid if it’s brand new rock.

if it looks clean (and is a mined dry rock) dont bother cleaning its as clean as it gets.

if it has decayed matter on it a bleach soak is recommended. If its from a questionable source- potentially copper contaminated then acid bath (read up on the need for neutralization afterwards, ventilation and safety)

If i wanted the best success for a new build today, i would get marco dry rock or equivalent and just use it as is, its cheap enough to avoid messing with rock that need cleaning and you know you are starting fresh.

The purpose of bleach would be to remove organic detritus stuck to it (like dead sponges, algae, etc.). If you do not see such things, no need to bleach.

Acid would be to remove the outer layer of rock, such as if it came from a high phosphate or maybe copper-containing environment (like perhaps in a fish only).

I would add, I bought some mined Marco reef saver rock and there was a piece of a plant root in it. So inspect it and get out any organic matter you can before using it. That piece of root could have caused a much slower cycle as well as who knows IMHO.
