Acro a goner ? What causes this?

Well there are way to many variables to dial down exactly what is causing that....it could be anything from pest to not enough flow to alkalinity issues or coral warfare.....a quick google search of "acropora dieing from the base up" or "acro stn on base" should head you in the right the direction......we would need a lot more info like tank size whats used for flow, tank parameters, to even begin to give you an educated guess.....as far as it being goner there is still a lot of living tissue there...if the problem is fixed i say this one can deffinately be saved.

The tank has been running for 18 months and is an AIO cube 30x30x24 deep. I dose 2 part sea chem fusion and mag via bubble magus doser. I have a vortex MP10 and also return pump for flow. I think the MP10 is enough flow. Also just switched from eBay Mars aqua 165w LED to an aquatic life 36" qaud t5 VHO. I use Red Sea pro coral salt and do weekly 7gal water changes. Have a fuge with light on back that comes on at night with cheato that does great. In other chambers have carbon, chem pure, and UV filter. My coriline is covering but quickly gets covered by brownish algae. Lots of diff types of sponge and hitchikers that came with rock. HOB protein skimmer. I do have bristle worms I just found and small worms in sand in sand tubes. Can't keep snails alive anymore aside from conch. Goniopora just died. All LPS are fine and montipora. Lots of pods in fuge. This acro has been losing tissue for over a month from bottom up. First thought was GSP. Polyps are still extending on live parts. Also I lost a birds nest in a matter of days the polyps just jumped out of its pores. Would GFO reactor help?

Yes we deffinately need to know all of your tank parameters and what your using to test them

Alkalinity
Calcium
Magnesium
Ph
Salinity

Do you carbon dose anything like vodka or vinegar

Perameters are:
Salinity=1.26
Calcium=480(working on that)
Alk=10-11
Nitrates=good(yellow on scale)
Phosphates=good
Mg=? (Need new kit)
Ammonia=0
PH fluctuates between 8.0 and 8.2
* I need a better testing kit. Just using the typical API I think that's the brand. Saltwater pro test kit you get at local petsmart. What kit would you recommend?

I just went back to the seachem 2 part fusion cause I didn't like the tropic marine 3 part balling method. Was using TM salt also. Since I changed to Red Sea and fusion I have seen improvements but I think that might be the new T5 fixture. My LPS are looking great so thinking I might have some leaching from rocks or sand. I do see these worm looking creatures that eat my favia. Also have noticed increase in Astraea stars fish (excuse spelling). Rock has been looking very dusty brownish also.

When you say phosphates are good what exactly do you mean y that?? Are you able to test for it?? I would recommend the hanna egg checkers if you can make that investment they are well worth the extra money...especially on the phosphates, it is the only one i would trust to test phosphates..also salifert would be a good brand to go with for you alk, cal, mag, and nitrates.....also how far is your mp10 from this acro?? If your having a lot of light brown down dusting on your rocks that can deff be a phosphate and flow issue...hosestly imho i dont think 1 mp10 is adequate for a 30" tank... when you see acros dieing from the base up that have previously been fine while the tank was newer it can be caused by decrease in flow due to all the corals growing out and feeling in the tank, you would be supprised at how fast they will deminish your flow....also has your alk been stable?? If i were you i would start by increasing the flow and getting some good test kits...find out what that phosphate number is and test alk daily for a week and make sure its not swinging on you...with all those stonies they could use up a lot of alk and cal a day and if your dosing by hand that could be enough of a swing daily..i dont recall if you mentioned a dosing pump or not....also check real close for pest some can be really hard to see...but in my humble opinion i do think your having a flow issue...hope this helps

Looks like shadowing issues. With the new T5s you're probably going to be better. It's not a goner as long as living tissue is on it, I've had many come back with less.

Thanks for the replies. Helpful information. At the moment and last few days my parameters have been out of whack due to too many changes in the tanks additives and lighting. The acro was doing this long before when all was stable. I recently in the past few water changes went to Red Sea Pro coral salt and went back to using 2 part reef fusion from Tropic Marine Balling 3 part. I saw negatives since beginning tropic Marine BM. Also used TM salt. And to add to that I just went to T5 cause I found an Aquaticlife fixture for next to nothing. This build was meant to tie me over until I build a 300g in the wall when I move.. Getting the hard learning out of the way with this cube. I think I will be adding another power head on other side to get rid of some dead zones. And once parameters balance back out hopefully all will be good. Thanks again.
