Anybody know what this is. I got this one from a friend. This guy hasn’t done much since I got him. He’s sitting in 350-400 PAR. Recently turned more blue purple. I’ll probably move him high in the tank on a frag rack to see if more light will make him blow up.

It’s a blue Acropora with brown’ish yellow polyps bahahahaha

Anything else?
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha so funny...

hard to say OP but it sort of reminds me of horrida, I‘m sure @C. Eymann is going to say something else.

When I changed out my 6500K lamps a while back...he finally got some polyp extension. So he may want 500-600 PAR. I may end up trying to spot light him with something to see what happens.
Just leave things be, if things are coloring up, leave it alone. What color was it when you got it?

Don't quote me but looks so much like purple bonsai

My guess is it’s to small to be sure about any of thoes id’s.
C. Eymann you love to guess species that are not often imported don’t you! :) I love it when I see wierd or not often imported species pop up, I always grab them even if they are a boring color.

I agree too small to really narrow down, it could be a different species entirely,
the two species I mentioned are the only ones I know of that share that weird puffy structure to both the radial and axials, also that axial and radial corallites are hard to distinguish from eachother.

Squarrosa is rare to see in the hobby these days, where as cophodactyla is actually pretty common.

OP, it is a very neat piece, curious to see what it turns out to be.

I vote give it your own name like,
Death by chocolate(bryer’s ice cream flavor, i think bryer’s anyway lol)
Royal Lip Stick(purple dye use to be really expensive, why it was the royal color in most european countries)
Snorlax’s revenge(because those picachu corals are expensive lol)

Very cool , reminds me of a wild colony I group bought with some guys from MR somewhere around 15 years ago. It came in as cream skined./ pink coralites broke it up and to everybodys systems it went , most did not do anything but brown out and eventually die, I had a 38 gallon with 400w radium and 100w of PC actinic . My frags all turned this super deep blurple and the polyps went neon gold and tips would change , it had to be under around 600-1000>? Par , I gave a piece to Ab Fish in NJ and it grew into a huge colony in their reef display. Super funky and rare these days , Id love to know if you ever frag it , I really miss that one.

I’ll keep you guys updated as it grows. I should be able to get it to take off with the new CaRx. Then I’ll post some good pictures. Thanks for the replies, I got sick and was in bed the last few days.

@marco fish will post a picture of his frag tomorrow. He may get a top down too. :-) His is bigger than mine. He said this:

“Yes I remember now, crazy that it has brown polyps, I think that coral was a maricultured coral and I bought that in Miami at an LFS. Mine doesn’t have the brown polyps.”

So here it is @Reefahholic, and everyone else trying to ID this Acro, IPhone 10 plus camera with polyp labs yellow and orange filters, in that order. It’s as close as how it looks in my tank in the picture, and as of 2 months ago it started showing that color on the tips and encrusting on the rock.

Thx bro! It’s amazing how different the mother colony looks.

I agree and under a little different lighting, you have T5’s mix with some leds and I have leds supplemented with 2 T5’s. I guess we’ll watch it grow and see what happens. I am curious when you start running the CaRX and mine still supplementing with Aquaforest 123, what is going to happen .
