I disagree with you here.feeding isnt going to help that coral live right now.
Most corals like this puff up in the evening right after the lights go out. If they are weak they won't even do that.Not saying it cant help but if the algae started growing in after they put the coral in the tank, its tissue would have needed to recede before hand. Lack of feeding usually wouldnt cause a coral to lose any tissue like this but 100% wrong placement and parameters being off will. Lack of nutrition will but that is assuming they also dont broadcast feed or have enough fish to supply it.
Food will 100% help it grow faster and recover better but the coral itself isnt puffing up like it is supposed too, usually for a acan or favia when mine wont puff up it is due too much lighting or flow which cannot be ruled out.
