Hey R2R! Recently I noticed a small bit of recession/die off along the bases of 4-5 acros.
Everything within my system has been fairly stable, although the summer temps have my tank fluctuating between 78.5-79.5 (which I don't expect is a huge deal), and the summer sun now hits the tank directly for an hour or so in the morning. I blocked this sunlight recently to test whether or not this would be causing damage.
PE has been fairly normal despite what I'm seeing along the bases of these select corals. I do have one coral that occasionally shows Mesenterial filaments along the areas that appear to be damaged.
Alk - 8.7
CA - 390
Mg - 1335
Nitrate - 10
Phosphate - .05
I suspect I'm looking at AEFW or Red Bugs? I will attach a couple photos of the infected corals.
I did dip one mini colony off of my frag rack. The photo looks like classic AEFW damage, but I wasn't able to see any AEFW post-dip. I DID see some small "black bugs" immediately flush off the frag plug seconds into the dip. Could these be pods capitalizing off the damaged tissue? Or are these the culprit?
I did add some corals recently so I would not be shocked if something made it past my dip routine. First time dealing with acro pests, so any help would be appreciated!
