I picked up this piece just as it was received by my LFS. It's a beautiful piece but has a feature I've not seen before. All around the base of the rock there's all this encrusting something... is it simply a new growth or is it something separate from the acro? Any help is much appreciated!!

Thanks for the help! Glad to know its healthy! Much appreciated!

I was going to guess Acropora cerealis on another post you had about this. But i wanted to mention that you should get that sand off the base tissue or it could start to receed there. If that starts then it could take the whole colony bottom on up. And since it is so thick and dense i would give it strong water flow to prevent the middle from receeding as well. If my ID is not right i still think this will be a tabling species so plan for that.
