I found a colony of purple/lavender Acropora longicyanthus today and was curious if anyone had any history or information on it? Once it settles in I will take some pictures of the colony. Just wanted to learn about the coral, thanks to anyone who can chime in.

Here are some photos of it.

Thanks for the link. Definitely has good information on there. Has anyone seen a coral like this recently? It reminds me of the purple monster except it has different colored polyps and growth is slightly different. Color is pretty much spot on though. I’m not sure if it’s an old school type coral or if it has been brought in here and there.

Honestly, it looks like a. tortuosa to me… possibly Cali Tort. Very common, hardy, and beautiful.

Also here is the only picture I took of a colony of it in the lfs to see some growth;

If this is a wild colony, I would encourage you to break off a backup frag or two just in case the colony decides to go belly up.

I think it was an old colony from years ago (not exactly sure when) it’s been in their tank awhile though. And I gave my friend who has a reef as well a few small cuttings. So there will be backups. I also have a few small pieces as well that fell of during fragging that I glued onto some rock.

EDIT: friend got a picture of his frags.

I wouldn’t say for sure that it’s a Cali Tort, but the growth form definitely looks like a tort of some kind. Your pics seem to show some blue (or purple?), which is why I suggested Cali Tort.

Yeah it’s definitely is mainly purple. I’ll keep looking into it. I appreciate the help. I would agree it looks a lot like a tort.

Looking at the coral more I completely agree with the Cali Tort ID. Thank you for helping out. I appreciate it a lot.
