Hi all,
The coral in my tank are all doing well and growing except for my acropora.

Montipora digitata, montipora caps, chalices, nems and a few other sps corals. They are all growing pretty fast with white tips all over.

The acros are all still colourful but they don't grow.

Any tips, tricks or ideas?

Thanks

What are your phosphate and nitrate levels, PAR where the acros are placed, and pH?
Hey, phosphate 0.05 and nitrate 1.5.
And pretty steady at them numbers.
I don't really know what my PAR is. I am using radion gen 2 and 3's, at about 45% AB plus setting. They are about 2.5 foot above the coral.

Not sure about ph, don't measure it.
Acros are all at the higher part of rock work.

2.5 feet above the corals seems like a pretty big distance; i definitely recommend trying out a PAR meter. I thought my par was good recently until i had the same problem

Have you taken any pictures?
Have you compared old pictures to now?
I know, sounds dumb, thinking maybe growing slow. To slow to notice.

Par would be helpful.
Can you post a pic?
Where is alk, cal and mag?

Some acros take a pretty long time to get confident and take off. Are they new frags?

Yeah, like @obiyongkenobi said, 2.5 feet above the coral is too high. Then add in running them at 45% and it is probably a light issue. I will second the PAR reading suggestion.

Think I will up the lights then gradually, see what happens. Thanks to all that replied

Have any pictures of your set up.

If everything else is growing chances they are too, sometimes they take a while to move. I've had them sit for months then all of a sudden they just begin to encrust then you start seeing progress, but not surprising it can take 6months of no changes for them to start growing noticeably or even the first minute piece of encrustment

I second what some have said about par with your light being so far away from the corals. Im just starting my first sps dominant tank. I have a gen 4 xr15 pro 8 inches off the water running AB+ at 85% on a hybrid fixture with 2 B+ and 2 C+ t5 bulbs. Now my frags are finally starting to show some color instead of just brown. Par meter was probably one of the best investments I have made in this hobby. Unfortunately I've killed a couple of clams and light hungry corals before I invested in one. At least now I know why I couldn't keep light demanding life alive before.

So how long are we talking about in terms of not growing..: 3 months? 6?

You should keep params consistent and keep flow good . Feed heavy in and filter heavy out

But what effect that will have on other corals? Some of your corals doing well may just bleach with increase in light just to satisfy the acropora. I would move the acropora up if possible. my two cents

2 year old thread. But I’m opening back up to see if your acros ever started growing. Mine aren’t growing either. But all my other sps are
He hasn't been here for two years
