If you've ever bought a wild or maricultured acro, you probably (and hopefully!) know they can shift color or come in with pests. We've taken the element of uncertainly out of these corals, by treating them for 3-5 weeks in our systems. When the colonies first come in, we first dip them in Bayer, then remove all the mariculture or wild rock from the colony. Removing the rock has several benefits. Elimination of any pest algae or eggs that are difficult to see, removal of any curing epoxies which may be toxic in a small system. These man made bases can sometimes come in with bits of metal, plastic, rubber, and other material. The colonies are then spend a week or more in our quarantine system, where they are dipped multiple times and then dipped upon exiting quarantine. During this time, many of them change color. Typically they come in very bright, then color down from the stress of fragging and dipping, and different lighting and flow. Color builds, with some bouncing back quite fast, others taking 4-5 weeks before starting to shine again.
