Am I the only one who thinks we need to stop grouping Acropora with other SPS like monti’s, stylos, seriatopras etc? In my opinion Acropora are on a totally different level compared to other SPS in terms of care and aquarium setup. Like in my case, I have nothing but acros in my tank and I find it kind of annoying when somebody says I have a nice collection of SPS, no there are no montis, pocilopora etc, it’s all acros.

Post up your thoughts.

Wow Mr relax a little. Lol. I'm an acro guy most people don't call corals by there proper names anyway. To me a favia and a favites are two different corals in the same family... well because they are. But when I go anywhere and ask for either they look at me funny and say "no we don't have that .. But we just got some cool war corals in" so I feel your pain Mr. It just doesn't hurt that much anymore. I've come to the conclusion that most humans are pretty clueless about just about everything. Good luck and try to have fun with it all....zsu

I agree. We can start a trend here. May I humbly suggest they now be referred to as either low SPS or high SPS? Montis, Bird's Nests, Poccis, and the like are lows and Acros are the highs. So someone can say I've got a low sps tank and we'll know they keep Montis and Bird's Nests primarily. To explain further so someone doesn't get upset about "low" it's not meant as a negative connotation, but just to think easily it's linked to "low" care requirements or low difficulty in comparison.

What if I have both? Would that be a middle care Reef or a high care Reef with some crap in it? Lol

Why does it annoy you if someone says nice tank of sps and not nice tank of acropora :) ? If you have only pseudanthias tuka and people come home and say - Nice tank of anthias ? Would that make you angry ? If you have kept anthias, you would know they are one of the most difficult to keep among anthias and fishes in general and on a whole different level.

Its just hobby !!! So enjoy it without getting caught up in hard vs easy ones.

My wife still calls my acropora tank with randall's anthias as fish tank with saltwater goldfish :D
It doesn't matter to me what others think or call my tank - I do the hobby for myself , not for anyone else. So , doesn't matter fi someone thinks I keep the easiest coral or hardest fish ..

Abhishek

What's that quote, "no more truer words spoken..." Of course I include myself as Mayor of Cluelessville.

Sticks, cups, plates and wrapper stonies sounds better. Honestly, acros or sticks do have different care and sensitivity levels as well. Some are easy whilst others will commit suicide in a matter of hours. But generally, I agree with OP :)

For me, it is not about getting upset or feeling superior, but being able to offer appropriate advice for care. Acros and MBP&S are different. I don't get upset when people call my tank an SPS tank, but I do have Leng Sy in there.

On the same note, frags on a frag disc are completely different than colonies.... flow, light, shadows, etc.

Details matter to be really good at stuff and both of these matter a lot, IMO.

Some Acros are easy and some other SPS are more difficult than most Acros, for example Pocillopora verrucosa.

I call my system an Acropora dominant system as I only have one monti,no pocci, syylos, seriotopa, digitata, in my system, which are all much more forgiving, fast growing, easy to color and actually become pest corals(space eaters)

Acros are much more demanding in regards to quality lighting & water conditions if you want vibrant colors and healthy growth.

Annoying?
Thats not annoying!

The first acro i ever bought bleached perfectly brilliant white. My wife says to me " what's that white coral you've put in your tank? It's the best coral you've ever bought".
