Acros and zoas coincide on the same rock?

As the title says, can a rock contain both acros and zoas long term? What happens when the zoas start to encroach on the acros base, chemical warfare?

IME the base of the acro will bleach from being shaded by the zoas. I haven't really seen the zoas attach though. It just means you may need to trim them back now and then.

I've got plenty of rocks where the zoas are growing right up to the base of acros. There is a small amount of tissue damage at the base of the acros, but they've been that way for several months with no significant problems. If anything, I have the acros encrust over the zoas rather than the zoas killing the SPS. HTH

If they get too close you simple get tweezers and pluck them off. No bigs

That is very interesting. I have seen several wild acro from fiji that have zoanthids growing on them.
