My so called beginner SPS is bleached out, and my so called difficult SPS are doing great. I've been trying to raise my nutrients since I noticed the monti starting to lose color. They were both at 0. Tank parameters are:
Sg 1.026
Ca 450ppm
Alk 7.8 dKH
Mg 1540ppm
NO3 12ppm
PO4 0ppm

6/22 When I noticed the loss of color

7/12 today, barely any PE and the green is almost completely gone.

This acro has been in the tank the same amount of time, and it's put down 1/8" of base and encrusted the glue already. It's picked up a bright green color, it was dull green, and always has polyps out.

How long have you had them? What's your lighting and flow on each? Might be coincidence, but my acros always seem to tolerate more stress than my monti's

They are in my IM Fusion 14 peninsula. Kessil A160WE 5" over water on a wall timer for light, 12 hour photo period at these settings on the knobs. (Both around 10:00)

Koralia Nano 565gpm powerhead. Ca has stayed 430-460 Alk 7.5-8.0. Tank inhabitants right now are 3 astrea snails(fallow from velvet) and I have only filter floss for filtration. No skimmer(no room), no chemical media(removed because 0 nurtients).

Don't feel bad I used to kill Monti's like crazy while everything else did fine. I chocked it up to an immature tank with lack of biodiversity.

Could be that, tank is two months old. This acro is definitely growing and coloring up tho... in tank around a month. Original picture on old phone, this is oldest on my new phone. 6/19-7/12

Be happy you have an Acro doing well in that young of a tank. I never could keep acro's alive that early in my system.

It might not be a green monti. Fwiw.

What did you dip it with?

Good flow in that spot ?

Not seeing it.

Wondering if it's a lower light monti.

.

Why i questioned light and flow. Had monti's in the past die verrrrry slowly due to too much flow or too little; same with lighting.

Sorry I fat fingered the post button then my Wi-Fi started messing with me...

It looked like this when I brought it home from the LFS. Dipped in Coral RX like I do everything. There's a Koralia 565gph powerhead in there so should be plenty of flow, altho that monti is out of dirrect flow.

Ugg. Was a beauty.

I lost a big birds nest when the rock shifted and I lost all the flow there.

Birdsnest? That is growing like a weed... one month growth, this was a week ago and it's grown since then.

Today top down

I meant mine. It slipped into a low flow spot and I didn't notice. 8in from the power head got blocked by the over flow.

Yea, I was just saying I don't get how everything is doing so well but this one montc cap. I have a monti digi in the back of the tank that's doing well also.

I just popped the light on to check flow, saw a snail with a bit of algae on it's shell next to the monti was getting blown around a bit but nothing really powerful. Funny those three snails have the tank clean all but for their shells... I might see if there's another spot I could move it too tomorrow. I've got limited real estate down low unless it's in the sand. It's polyps were back out and they are still blue. Just a hint of green, but bleached.

Ok 2 things,a little early for sps. Raise your light to around 9" and bring down the intensity. I've had tons of practice with monty caps, works every time. Good luck.

Please see recent BRS video on Kessil lights.... 9" overt the tank and 90% of the light would be on the floor.

If it's too early for SPS why are these doing so well? What makes it "too early?"
