I've been looking into a rimless cube tank, probably a shallow frag tank, but possibly a little deeper. The dimensions I want are 24''x24''x14''-24'' depending if I go with just a frag tank or a cube tank. I've been looking at prices for both a custom made glass tank, working from a basic bought glass cube, acrylic cubes and DIY acrylic. For those with acrylic experience, what would be the costs compared to glass if I did the acrylic DIY? What thickness of acrylic am I looking at here? I need holes to be drilled for an overflow and the input too. Looking at the prices of acrylic sheet, I'm a little worried at my lack of experience along with the fact I've experienced tanks leaking and cracking before and its not fun. I have much experience with saws, routers and know how to get the acrylic ready, but I've never tried gluing acrylic. Basically I'm asking what type and thickness I need and if I follow the right steps to glue it together is there a good chance I can succeed and save some money DIY? Plus learning how to DIY acrylic aquariums can come in handy for me in the future.
